I absolutely agree… Great racing venue and very good design of the course… Even though I suck at CX , I didn’t finish the course feeling, that I was beaten by circus graduates…
Today a crash at the start of the 45+ race was caused by a spectator and their dog being on the course. The spectator was not even looking in the direction of the riders and seemed to be surprised by the race. Luckily no one was seriously hurt but it could have been bad as the field was moving at 20+ mph. PLEASE if you are crossing the course look in the dirction of traffic before you cross the tape. Personally speaking, and I have a dog, please leave Rover at home a ‘cross race is really not an environment for them. Thanks. Ok I’m off my soapbox. BTW rockin course SCW. Just wish I could have raced more than 200 meters of it.
So that is what happened in my race. I hope he is okay. People have to pay attention at all times during the race. I have been near the tail end of a race and had people walk in front of me, putting me and them in harms way. As my Dad says, 95% of life is paying attention. A good rule to follow.
That is horrible. I’m glad to hear that everyone is okay. Though I think it’s safe to say that the dangerous aspect is having actual people who aren’t paying attention. There are many many people who bring dogs to cx events successfully and have caused no harm. Let’s not blanket all people with dogs into this category.
That was a wild course. Best one yet in my opinion. Little disappointed that half of the 4/5 field didn’t get to continue onto lap 4. I was saving an ENORMOUS reserve of energy for a violent, field destroying attack…. π
Agh, we missed our ChiCrossCup family after being off for a couple races. Today was awesome. WTB had two new racers finish strong. We will be back for more tomorrow. Thanks so many times over to the South Chicago Wheelman, volunteers working the race, USA Cycling peeps and everyone else. I took a total of one picture and Tweeted it. 1 is 1 more than none.
Hey- did anyone accidentally pick up black Shebeest arm warmers from the start area? I checked right after the race and they were gone. If so, I’ll be at the Half Acre tent tomorrow π -Karyn
Can someone please help me out with a question. I can only go to the race tomorrow or the one next weekend due to team members finances. I watched videos on YouTube and wondered if the course is “similar” as it was last year. I know it most likely is not exactly the same but just wanted to know if it still was a very tight course with a lot of twist and turns or does it have a lot of long straightaway. Thank you
Great course Here is Saturdays Master 55 plus race. Thanks to all volunteers for putting this together, along with Indian Lakes for letting us use part of their course for the weekend.
1) Thanks to all who contributed to another great CCC event – officiating was great – and everyone had good humor both days – especially the folks at registration who have the toughest job out there 2) thanks especially to the photographer who was (or was not?) heckling me this morning at 9 am when she said “nice technique” as I got bogged down in a bad line in a sand trap and had to bail out and run it. 3) sorry to the dude who I barked at who I thought was pre-riding the course during the last lap of the 35+ who was, in fact, racing (I’m not used to lapping people- apologies again).
That was likely me. If you managed to bail mid-pit and keep your face out of the sand, I consider that great technique. π I’m not one for heckles that early in the morning, and prefer positive reinforcement!
PS–Photos forthcoming!
Somehow, your helmet ended up at the George Garner Cyclery tent at the end of the day. I have it in my car, and will have it at the Libertyville store.
Great weekend! This is one of my favorite races as far as courses and accommodations go. π
I’ve got 2,000 photos to sort through, but in the meantime, pics from last weekend (Woodstock) can be found here: http://tippingpointphotography.zenfolio.com/2015cccwoodstock

Well, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks for the Tipping Point team…software upgrade issues, which turned into one hard drive failure, which we repaired only to have an on-site backup drive fail an hour later. Throw in a case of the flu for good measure, and…happy holidays to us! π
Anyone find a black hoodie at the start line? I left it there at the start of the 1/2/3s and it has the Main Street Bicycles logo embroidered on the left side and says ‘Support Your Local Bike Shop’ on the back. It’s very dear to my heart–I’ve crashed on many a preride in it.
In other news, killer race per usual. ILR is always my favorite weekend of the year! We were down at the Speakeasy until a little after 1am last night and I was sorely disappointed at the lack of other cyclists down there. If the race directors could get on that I’d appreciate it. Definitely a priority problem.
I like that idea. As for sandbaggers, a couple things to think about. Early in the season, riders can take half of their points with them to the next category, but after, it is kinda understood that riders aren’t going to upgrade. Do we want these lower categories decided by the riders who have just managed to stay away from a mandatory upgrade by not accumulating enough upgrade points, or draw a line in the sand that after that point, these are the guys competing for the series jersey and championship? Also, juniors are never required to upgrade.
Thanks for a great afternoon of racing Sunday.. While my call up sucked I managed to do well and test my legs in my first race in over a month in my prep for Jingle Cross. Great course, fast and nice challenges.
I am also wondering if there is a page or person who was taking photos? Would like to see some of the action from their perspective.
Excellent race and great course!. Here are some pics from Women’s 1/2/3 race Day 1, Women’s 1/2/3 Day 2, Men’s 1/2/3 Day 2. Enjoy (still in the process of adding more)β¦ https://www.flickr.com/photos/clarkmaxwell/
Dear USADA,
Thanks for coming back to Chicago. Always good to see you. Next time maybe you could target the most likely offenders and maybe nail an older guy or two… Oops, did I say that?
Hopefully someone paid for the CIR test…
The usual =winners only= plan is tired but who knows, maybe we get lucky…
Take care. See you in two years.
P.S. I can’t believe Mr. Clean only got second Sunday. Maybe too much TV time lately…
Forgive me if I should know this stuff, but is it public knowledge who they tested, what they tested for, why they tested that person/persons, and what the outcome was?
HELP! My daughter just discovered that she doesn’t have her cycling shoes. The last place she had them was at Indian Lakes. Did anyone pick up a pair of specialized MTB shoes with Shimano SPD cleats at Indian Lakes? I am really hoping that someone has them.
Now THAT is a proper CX course! Awesome!
I absolutely agree… Great racing venue and very good design of the course… Even though I suck at CX , I didn’t finish the course feeling, that I was beaten by circus graduates…

Agreed, the dog does not seem to be the problem. Don’t cross a course unless you’re sure no one is coming, with dog or without.
