Another great announcing job by Kenny. Really makes the CCC that much more awesome! How does he manage to have as much enthusiasm for the last race as he does for the first?
I completely agree with this comment. Kenny’s announcing is a huge part of the recent success of the CCC in my opinion. He really embodies the inclusive and supportive attitude of the CCC. We are very fortunate to have him announcing the series.
There wouldn’t be any reason to be there if volunteers didn’t set up a course. That is thankless work that very few see. We wouldn’t have any sense of order or timeliness if the people working the registration table all day long didn’t focus on every detail, and that doesn’t even address the ones who staple all the race numbers correctly to all the rider releases during the week prior. None of this would even be close to as safe if not for those who volunteer for medical tent and course marshalls. Stand by a course marshall for 15 minutes, and watch how many distracted people they keep out off racer’s grills. How could we ever run with out mechanics both at SRAM and at a number of team tents, many who service riders they race against without question, or fix something that should have been fixed Thursday without saying a word. Wanna lonely job? wait for people to show for payouts. Sit all day so somebody may receive their five dollars quicker than a moat washes out a cat five’s dreams. Any guesses on how awesome USA Cycling Officials and One2Go were last week sorting a hundred juniors despite hair covering 7% of the rider’s bib numbers. And this week, we solved that, but then juniors starting sitting up when the finished (probably because of the hills and heat) so they were right back at square one. And didn’t blink. Or how we have a series director that is so on it you will never know.
I stumbled in this scene when Rob (psimet) asked me to call Woodstock a few years ago. I was IMMEDIATELY struck by how this community is unlike any other place I have ever seen or experienced in my life. I am honored to be there, and if we can just overcome asking where reg is and repeating don’t pre-ride the finish line, my life would be just perfect.
The racers (competitive and celebratory) are what really make this so fun.
I think you are a bit too modest about your contribution Kenny, but I’m glad that you took the time to highlight many of the people who contribute to the series that often go unnoticed. Every position is important and helps make the ccc what it is.
You are completely correct Kenny. none of this would happen without any of those moving parts. That does not mean, however, that you don’t do an awesome job. Value added.
I have been gone for three years but managed to get back this past Sunday for a few races, seven years since I raced Dan Ryan at least. I was walking around just admiring the atmosphere of the best amateur cx series in the country. I paused for a second and said to myself “when did the CCC get a play by play man?” Just bad ass!
Kudos to Tony and Beverly Bikes for setting up a tough and fast cx course, and forgoing all of the circus elements. Here’s to future race promoters taking note and following suit.
Yes, I would hate to get my bike wet at a cross race, or have to do an obstacle that is difficult and could make me crash if I don’t do it right, potentially damaging my 5k cross bike!
Did anyone pick up a stainless steel Yeti mug deal over by Chainlink and The Union tent. It was sitting on a white fold out table. I spaced out on it and left it there. Thanks.
Michele: I saw a silver Yeti mug on a table under what might have been the Velosmith tent (next to Chainlink) and I think I heard someone asking about who’s it was as I was rushing from one thing to another. So, maybe someone from Velosmith knows about its whereabouts.
I found it! I think it’s still in the back of my truck with the tent and table from a week ago. I’ll bring it to the Rapha/Velosmith tent this weekend and I’ll put your name on it.
I had a stainless steel flask “removed” from start/finish during the 4/5 race. I checked lost and found before my team took the trailer back to the shop….it was not there. My name is engraved on it “Vince” for whomever “accidentally” picked it up from under my water bottle which was seemingly undisturbed. I know it won’t be returned and some 14 year old already hid it in their parents garbage, but I would like to say that I am deeply disappointed that this happened in this community that I have come to love, I will not be so trusting in the future even with simple things like this. I received said flask at a wedding, the parties involved are spread across the country and I never get to see them so use my flask in good health, I’m sure they would have it no other way!
I hope you find it. I didn’t see your flask but I did see a black one outside the starting grid mixed in with the water bottles. Anybody know of another endurance sport where a person may find two flasks ditched by racers at the start of a race.
This week it was my car keys that I lost. Black Honda key plus some house/work keys. Pretty sure this sucks more than the $100 bill I lost during week 1. An hour of CX racing makes the mind a little foggy.
I saw A wheel at Beverly CX pit tear down. Bobby worked SRAM there, and Andrés and José worked SRAM at Carpenter CX. I would check with Beverly Bike, MSB/SS, or ABD at the CCC trailer as they hosted these three weeks in row. Your wheel in more anxious than you are right now. Lost and found will be in a bike box at registration Sunday.

I found something on the course today. It’s the kind of something that the owner is currently sick to their stomach about misplacing.
Describe it and we’ll get it back to you.
Was it my tongue?? It’s pink and kinda slimy, very gross, I wouldn’t keep.
Oh wait… Was it Ken Krebs last 1st place medal???
Hahahaha
Damn, haha

Kindly keep the focus on the Stars! They make it exciting. Thank you for the kind words, though. The racing yesterday was sick!!!

Agreed!!! No silly circus obstacles. The pond was funny at first, I was so glad not to see it. DRWCX could’ve used a few barriers though.

Thanks Patrick. That’s it. If I find it bonus, if not, it’s my fault for leaving it there. Thanks.

Brainfarted and left my spare front wheel at the SRAM pit. Does anyone know how I can obtain it – or know where it might have gone?
Tried looking for it at Carpentersville – but they said the event folks at Dan Ryan probably have it. Fingers crossed…
