Awesome course, my STL guests thought spyder monkey and ten27 killed it as well. Just a quick heads up @chicrosscup twitter page has hashtaged montorse CX likely an autocorrect from montrosecx. Thanks everyone! See you at Miller chill CX in Bloomington IL next weekend
Killer course. As in, it killed me a million times. Great job, and a great way to wrap up the season.
To Frank Musil: I’m the big guy that you lapped in the last off-camber bit near the end of the second lap. I heard you coming, knew you were the leader, and just tried to get out of your way. Wasn’t trying to block you. Sorry dude.
Just some words of advice in that regard. The best thing to do when getting passed/lapped in a race is always to hold your line, even if that’s the race line. I once called out “on your left!!”… well my neck still hurts months later
There’s a part of me that knows that. That part wasn’t loud enough in the moment. I was about a foot away from course tape and tried to get closer to it to be more out of the way.
Zeno is right. Predictability is much preferred over being in the “right” spot. Just hold your line and leave some room on either side. If the person passing you is really that good, you won’t even know you’re being passed.
Well, unlike the above comments I didn’t love the course. I wanted to be racing cyclocross, not beach biking. Way too much sand. Let’s have a more balanced course.
Less than a quarter of the course was on sand. There are cyclocross races where less than a quarter of the course is *not* sand. I’d say it was pretty cyclocross-y.
Challenge yourself. Why don’t you like sand? Because it’s hard? Because it adds an element of unpredictability and chaos? It’s all part of the sport.
We did not have sand during all CCC series so it was time to have some. Watch this UCI video and see what they have to go through at least some of us were able to ride through it this Sunday.
Great course that was challenging physically and mentally. The suffering was no worse than Jingle Cross though. You can to commit to the line, pedal fast, and the sand was rideable. Go hard and make a mistake, like I did, and you endo over the bars, dust yourself off, and try to forget about that next lap when you go for it again. There were a couple of times were I was coming into the sand so fast that I was scared and had to remember to stay relaxed, weight back and pedal. That’s what makes CX fun. Some laps you’d hit just the right line and the sand would feel so much easier, it was almost like a different course.
The descent of Cricket Hill was a blast and of course had there been any precipitation the course would have been super technical all around. Those flowy, fast sections would have been tricky.
Kudos to everyone who put on the race for keeping it running smoothly all day. Course Marshalling that corner had to be stressful yet the folks there were always nice and courteous. It was also so much fun to have the nicer weather were everyone was out chatting, hanging out, and spectating. While the sand may have hurt my legs, and my spirit a couple times, the cheers more than made up for it.
Thanks for Half Acre for the much much needed post-race beverage, Karen for the awesome photos, Kenny for saying my name and somehow pronouncing it correctly!
Not sure which Ross commented here.
Regarding too much not enough… I think it’s great when the race promoters make use of all of the wooded areas, sand, etc at their discretion to mix things up.
Thanks to the race directors, Kenny and CCC for a great Season!
Montrose is a unique challenge. It would be a shame for them not to use as much sand as possible. There are plenty of other types of courses in the CCC/fast/flowy/full. I fully support pushing everyone and making the State Championship the hardest race of the year.
I’d have to agree. Love the sand to a degree, but it seemed half of your lap time you were slugging through sand. Could be an interesting stop along the series for the “sand race”, but State Champs could be better balanced.
the lost and found box. will be at e.j.’s for the awards party on dec.17. one note, however,if it is not picked-up there.anything not claimed either will scavenged or donated to one off c.c.c. benefactors.

Thank you everybody for the stylish new digs! The tent is amazing, and Bryan McClaran did a very nice thing organizing that. Thanks to all who gave. There will always be room for a visit during the races. I will take good care of it for future announcers too!!! Have a great holiday season. For those interested, plenty of cross still if you know how to look for it. -Ken, Michelle, and Torchy!
Came from Minneapolis to your race yesterday. I have to say it was the most fun I have had racing CX all season. Kudos to those who set the course up, it was really incredible. All the thumbs up.
Thanks to ChiCrossCup team for a great series. We have to get up at 4:30 to make it in time from Madison but it is well worth it. Kenny deserves a special shout-out for the job he does. For those of you still interested in racing, check out the course video (link below) for the Midwest Regionals this Saturday in Sun Prairie, WI. Lee Unwin and the L5 Racing team know how to design a challenging course and put on a well-managed event.
Hey everyone, thanks for coming out and enjoying the sun, sand, and mild temps. It was a pleasure getting to see all our cyclocross friends and family again. We’ve missed you.
Wonderful end to the season! Thanks to all the individuals, teams, professionals and volunteers who worked so hard to make it happen! Special thanks to those who set up and tore down courses, anyone who took the time to post videos and photos, and of course Kenny. Great people, great athletes, great times. So lucky to have the CCC! See you in September!
Great season everyone!
I don’t have enough fingers and toes to keep track of how many times I ate sand. New camera has a better mic so you can hear all the huffing and puffing… and cussing!
Masters 45+ video. Wasn’t my plan to get everybody in the top 20 in it, but that’s the way it goes some days. Sorry for the sketchy video, settings apparently got adjusted somewhere along the line.

Great photos Karen. Thank you.
Congrats Pawel! Awesome job today!
Thanks Karen
Karen. Can I use some of your photos for social media. Thanks.
Of course! I shared the album for that reason. Enjoy!
Awesome Thanks again!
Awesome series this year and I absolutely LOVED all the SAND at Montrose!!! Felt like we were magically transported to Belgium!! Super fun!!!

Also, for the sand peeps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb-1y6lnKCc
Always an awesome race…but…too much sand this year!
Is there really such a thing? I thought he added sand this year was fantastic.
Loved the sand. Made it a true CX race Euro style

Scott Ross, … it was Ross Adams that responded…
Loved the Sand… a different type of challenge… but a great challenge!!
Great racing Ross… Your Lk Geneva race was awesome. Hope you can do one in the area next fall.

Anyone know the deal for lost-and-found? I left a jacket (Colombia, brick red). Anyone know if / where we can pick up?
Thanks.

The junior and womens’ 4/5 course had a perfect mix between sand and grass. It was tough but not overly.
.
Are you missing swim trunks? I sure do have them! Happy to return, just lemme know!

Hi Powel.
Just let me know the photos (name_number) you want and how to send you the file.
Happy to do so.
Hi Jason,
I’m interested in montroseCX-78 and 181.
Thanks again
Sorry forgot. My email [email protected]
Hi Pawel
They are on the way.
Great job out on the course.
Jason
Only course I wanted to quit my preride 1/5th of the way in. Glad I didn’t. #Empathy for all those who raced. I understand what you raced.

Kenny, I think you’re missing some vital info. It doesn’t belong to CCC, or to Jason, or to me. It has your name on it. It’s yours. Forever.
