The South Chicago Wheelmen host stop number two of the 2022 CCC at Glenwood Academy CX in Glenwood, IL.
On the South side of the city, set your GPS to 500 W 187th Street Glenwood, IL 60425. Then please drive slowly through the campus to the parking area. This is an active school with children, so please drive carefully.
The SCW usually have some sort of raffle to raise money for the academy, so look for that onsite.
Single Speed Women will again start with the Single Speed Men.
Look for preliminary staging to be posted here some time on Saturday. Remember the first row is by CCC Series Points, then everyone else is by CrossResults.com points. Let us know if you spot any errors. Thanks!
And finally… its getting chilly. Please remember to bring and wear clothes for before AND after your race to stay nice and warm and toasty. See you all on Sunday!
Here we go, the first of 7 events in the 2022 Chicago Cyclocross Cup. Please excuse any hiccups as we clear out the cobwebs and get back to business from 2019.
We know its been chilly recently, but please plan on bringing as much water as you think you’ll need for the day… and then some. Though there are water pumps available in the park, they are not especially close or convenient to the course… although the course is across the street from a water pump famous enough to have a it’s very own wikipedia page. Drink at your own risk before racing! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schiller_Woods_magic_water_pump
Similarly – please plan to bringing enough food (and beer) to last through the day, as there will NOT be a food truck on premises. The Forest Preserve also requests (demands) that no alcohol is consumed within 50 feet of the parking lot. So bring your long tape measures.
For anyone looking to register same-day… don’t. Please pre-reg on BikeReg.com. Thanks to everyone who has done so already! If for some reason you can’t find a working Internet connection to BikeReg… please bring exact change to the venue or be prepared to pay electronically via PayPal/Zelle to [email protected].
Bonus reminder, only those pre-reg’d on BikeReg will be staged by their CrossResults.com points.
At the request of the ladies for more competition, the front row of the Single Speed race will be split half & half women and men.
And finally… as this is a new venue for everyone, the finer details of course route, length, etc. are still being ironed out. Just point your Garmin, TomTom, GoogleMaps, dowsing rods, etc. to Schiller Woods Picnic Grove #12 Irving Park Rd, Chicago, IL 60634 and listen for Kenny’s voice when you get close.
Why is this race called Groundhog PSI-clocross? Well, in 1992 the downtown square of Woodstock, IL was used to film the movie Groundhog Day. Rob Curtis and the PSIMET crew have carried some parts of the movie into the venue.
Registration closes Friday at 10pm. There will be day of registration available at a higher price but only through BikeReg.
The race day schedule is different than usual. Novice/Cat 5 race is at 7:20am (reg opens at 6:30). Masters races have been split into 1/2/3 and 4/5. 3’s are now 3/4.
The last race of the day is call the “Spirit of the Forbie” race. Pronounced “4B”. It is an OPEN race so all categories and genders may now experience the last race of the day. Staging is in reverse order. With so many racing it we encourage everyone else to stay and give them something to experience.
Remember that Daylight Savings ends the morning of the race so be sure you have the right time!
There is plenty of parking throughout the park. As with all previous years there is NO PARKING ON THE GRASS. This is the strictest rule the park and city have for the facility. This also means no vehicles on the grass to drop off gear early in the morning <looks at masters teams>.
If you enter from either of the Park’s North entrances (Kishwaukee Valley Rd or Jackson St) then you can drive right up to the “tent city” field and drop off gear.
This park has “always” had a “no alcohol” policy. So when you bring in cups for your soda and lemonade PSIMET asks that you pack out what you bring in. It helps PSIMET make sure the park doesn’t think we’re a drinking series with a cycling problem if there aren’t a lot of juice boxes laying around.
Food: Mario Kart food truck will be serving between 11 and 2:30
In “Groundhog Day” Diner fashion – Homemade pies made by Jill Stuck will be awarded on the podium to the winners. Team sponsor Begyle Brewing is also making sure winners don’t get thirsty.
Equipment Pits will be single width and will not use the orange fencing this year. There will NOT be any water or washing facilities at the race though, so if conditions look to be getting worse then please plan your own support accordingly. There are a couple of water spigots around the park that may or may not be in service .
There won’t be much if any daylight left after the last race ends, so please plan accordingly. Also if you can, please help PSIMET tear down the course so they aren’t doing it all in the dark.
Kids Race will be hosted by Parker Curtis and held at 2:00pm.
As another reminder, if you are pre-riding while anyone is finishing up, please make sure you are NOT inadvertently riding in front of people still racing. Just ride slowly behind them and offer words of encouragement or ring a cowbell. Thanks!
This race is a fundraiser for the Glenwood Academy. Consider donating either cash or by purchasing raffle tickets for a Psimet wheelset. One ticket for $5 or 5 for $20.
There will be food (hot dogs and hamburgers) and beverages, adult beverages too, beer and wine, and water from 11am to 2pm sold by Academy staff.
DIRECTIONS: Race venue is located at 500 W 187th St. Glenwood, IL 60425 Enter at 187th and Chicago Heights Glenwood Road at the stop light on the East side of the campus.
Please use #AfterglowCX, very important to remember the “CX”.
Afterglow is what lingers when the ChiCrossCup concludes and you’re not ready to quit. Chicago Cuttin’ Crew throws a great race at Douglas Park Golf Course in Chicago to collect funds, cycling parts, and clothing for our youth cycling programs from the South and West sides.
We are a DECADE in, and so SO proud to continue the pledge drive for Blackstone Bikes and West Town Bikes. This year, we will also host a buncha fun chaos with the midday Working Bikes’ Run What WE Brung Hot Lap, along with the cutest race of the season, DoggoCross to benefit PAWS Chicago!
To add, the Relay Hot Lap is bound to be STACKED. Choose two to three friends, grab matching non-spandex outfits, and Bring Your Own Baton. We’ll give you two numbers to fight it out.
Afterglow always has equal payouts for men and women (zero dollars). And while it is the most affordable race on the calendar, bribes in the form of donations are always accepted in exchange for a spot on the front row.
Registration is at www.bikereg.com/afterglow. We will have a donation box on-site to collect your gently used gear, clothing, and cash money.
Can’t race? Feel free to fiscally compete at www.pledgereg.com/afterglow! Half Acre Cycling and Comrade Cycles are currently leading the board with their $1,000+ donations!
Day-of registration and number pickup opens at 9am near the start/finish. Bib numbers will go on your RIGHT side, and course runs counterclockwise. Best place to park is on Inner Ogden Avenue, just on the outside of the course.
A wheel/equipment pit will be available. Wheels/bike in, wheels/bikes out.
Podiums will be presented shortly after each race, and we will have limited edition 2019 Cuttin’ Crew prizes for those victorious.
Thank you for continuing to support the young people of our city — their programs not only provide transportation to the races and food and snacks, but also a sense of home and accomplishment for the beloved young people of our community.
Here we go! The 11th and final event in the 2019 Chicago Cyclocross Cup. Montrose Beach and the USAC MidWest Cyclocross Championships at Montrose Harbor hosted by Spidermonkey Cycling!
Since this is the Midwest Regional CX Championship, and CCC finale, podiums are a little more complicated than usual. Please help the best announcer a race series could ask for and if you are top three in the race or the overall, report to the podium ASAP following your race.
Speaking of this being an important race, to keep the finishes clear for epic battles, our hard-working USAC officials may finish riders early if they are deemed out of contention and within the 80% time gap to the race leader. Listen for Kenny and look for the officials to know if you are being finished early; you will still be placed in the results.
A reminder from One2Go to please, please, please pin your number properly (see the image below) and put any long hair up in pony tails. If One2Go can’t see your bib number you won’t be scored properly.
The weather looks positively great (oh crap, what did we just do?!) but be warned, the wind coming off the lake is no joke; please make sure to secure your tents.
Lots going on and its winter, so no Kiddie Cross this year.
Here’s your friendly reminder that Montrose Beach is a city park where people who might have no idea what cyclocross is might be wandering through on their usual Sunday strolls. Yes, we’ll be celebrating another great season of cyclocross with drinks** and food and more dranks**, but please be on your best behavior and show the city what a classy bunch we are.
Speaking of Rapha Chicago, pre-reg riders should head there on Saturday to get your bib number early and enjoy free refreshments while talking smack with that person just ahead of/behind you on the overall — as well as getting 25% off almost the entire store. Please RSVP to let them know you are coming for food planning. And it should go without saying, make sure you put that bib number somewhere safe (i.e. pin it the night before like a pro). If you lose your number between Saturday night and Sunday we may not have an extra number for you.
Simonds Drive is closed to thru-traffic and parking within the barricades is restricted to officials, food trucks, Evanston Subaru, porta-pottie deliveries and the like. Regular parking will be along Simonds Drive and Montrose Drive either to the north or south, entering and exiting the way you came in. Per the Park District, NO PARKING ON THE GRASS, ANYWHERE! Please adhere to volunteer requests regarding your vehicle parking and movement
Speaking of parking, VIP parking spaces within the barricades (near the finish) are again available on BikeReg to help defray costs. Entry is from the NORTH END of Simonds drive — check in with the nice volunteers and show your receipt. (If you have a trailer please count that as a second space).
Teams are welcome to drop off equipment at the turn-around on the south-end of Simonds Drive near the staging grid. The driver must remain with the vehicle to expedite unloading and keep traffic flowing, just like at the airport. It’s usually a high-volume operation with everyone coming at the same time so help your teammates.
Speaking of equipment, team tents can go in many of the traditional areas, and with the start/finish change you are welcome to line the finish stretch, but only on the WEST (grass) side. No tents on the roadway. Also, please keep the area behind (east) of the sponsor/reg tents open as well for podium, et al. (red area).
Speaking of team tent placement, all are welcome, nay encouraged, to drop/place tents and other large items on Saturday afternoon! There is hired security for overnight watch (though of course SMC, USAC, CPD, et al. cannot take responsibility for what the weather/acts of gods could do to items left overnight, so make sure it’s secured/laid down/tied down). And hey, stick around to lend a helping hand with course setup.
Speaking of helping hands, Spidermonkey could use a few more hands during the race on Sunday for additional course marshaling spots required of the new course design. Volunteers get free lunch! Check the sign-up sheet.
We understand the desire to pre-ride, especially with so many CCC’ers living nearby. However, we kindly request you DO NOT RIDE the course this week, especially on Saturday, to enable course construction AND to keep it in nice condition for game day. Again, drop the bike and pick up some course stakes and tape to help — it takes a village!
Course: NEW START AND FINISH ON THE ROADWAY! Wooooot, we so fancy. We expect the weather to be dry but let’s keep those crit elbows in for that first turn and the transition onto the grass. You can’t win the race in turn one, but you can lose it. Also a new EXPANDED pit. (But still, please remove your equipment expeditiously after your race.)
As is tradition with Montrose, the course alternates the direction each year, going clockwise (i.e. sand first, Cricket Hill second). Note: The Junior 9-14 will have a cut-off section to bypass some of Cricket Hill and possibly some sand.
Saturday Results will affect Sunday staging. PreliminarySunday staging will be posted here early Sunday morning. Please pay attention.
New bib numbers each day. Please do NOT wear your Saturday number on Sunday.
Food: Mario’s Kart will be onsite both days serving delicious tacos and burritos.
Bike Wash: There is NO bike wash or hoses at PRR. Please plan your bike and body wash accordingly.
After your race, if you’re staying at the hotel, please please please do NOT wash your bike in your room and do not take towels out of guest rooms to wash bike outside. Today’s rain will not dry out completely so please plan accordingly.
NO walking or riding on putting greens or tee boxes. NO warming up on fairways. There is a large golf outing taking place this weekend at PRR, so please show the other users of the property courtesy and respect like we always do.
This is another “No Drone Zone” due to the proximity to the DuPage airport.
For guests staying overnight, checkout is at 11am on Sunday. Late checkout at 3pm is available for an extra $25.
Kiddy Cross TBD this weekend depending on the weather.
Parking is limited, satellite parking will be west across the street by Target (Kautz Road).
There will be even less daylight left at the end of the day than last week after the last race ends, so please plan accordingly. Also if you can, please help the South Chicago Wheelmen tear down the course (on Sunday) so they aren’t doing it all in the dark.
The Course: We will again be racing on the East side of the property, next to the airport. The SCW never disappoint and this weekend’s track will roughly be similar to last year, if you can imagine it without snow. As always, the course may be different and change based on weather conditions.
If this arctic blast was all just part of Disney’s clever marketing campaign for Frozen 2, consider us impressed. Well played, Disney. As Elsa, Anna, and Olaf prepare to journey into the unknown, we’ll be journeying into cyclocross, hosted by the Northbrook Bicycle Club.
Thanks to the Wheeling Park District, the new fitness center addition to the Community Recreation Center provides the backdrop with front row seating (stationary bikes) and standing room only (treadmills and ellipticals), overlooking the course.
The center is open to the public. Take the chill off while checking out a pickleball match, but please leave bicycles outside.
Please use hashtag #WheelingCX
Parking is encouraged in the North parking lot closest to registration, staging, finish, pit, food, and that guy with the magic mic. Please leave the diagonal parking lot in front of the center available for community center patrons. There’s plenty of additional parking near the backside of the course in the West parking lot. Park in the lots only—not on the grass.
No drones are permitted in the air within the park due to the proximity of the Chicago Executive Airport-PWK.
No kids race is scheduled (keep those kiddos warm), but there’s a brand new playground. Swings, slides, balance features, etc. appropriate for ages 2 to 12. There’s even a two-tiered merry-go-round. Please DO NOT RIDE BICYCLES ON THE PLAYGROUND SURFACE. There will be plenty other surfaces to ride on within the park. Also, please avoid setting up tents in the amphitheater grass to avoid the electrical and irrigation underneath.
There are paths for warming up throughout the park. As always, be mindful of pedestrians and other patrons while enjoying the ride.
Food: When it comes to food trucks, Mario’s Cart doesn’t play games. Look for it in the North Parking Lot from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. They’ll be serving up street tacos, burritos, flautas, fries, nachos, Cuban panini, steak sandwiches, pretzel bites, quesadillas, soda, water, and hot chocolate. Wow, that’s a mouthful. Better wear your bibs (pun intended). They also have a location without wheels on the 2nd floor of Northbrook Court.
No alcohol permitted per park rules.
Weather:Warmth on the horizon, relatively speaking of course. Cyclocross weather returns.
The Course: runs anti-clockwise. Flat at the start and finish, but in between you’ll ride the camber along the pool embankment until you hit the course elevation; enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding areas from the top before heading back. Upon your return, there will be hops of the double bunny varietal (10 IBUs – ten-inch barrier units).
Why is this race called Groundhog PSI-clocross? Well, in 1992 the downtown square of Woodstock, IL was used to film the movie Groundhog Day. Rob Curtis and the PSIMET crew have carried some parts of the movie into the venue.
If you’re interested in looking over the filming locations for the movie there is a great map for self-guided tours here: woodstockgroundhog.org/pages/tour.html
Preliminary staging for Sunday will be posted here on Friday. We’re going to try and upload results from Saturday’s IL State CX Champs to CrossResults so they affect Sunday’s staging, but the turn around will be tight and so no promises.
There is plenty of parking throughout the park. As with all previous years there is NO PARKING ON THE GRASS. This is the strictest rule the park and city have for the facility.
Food: Dukes Blues n BBQ from East Dundee, IL is back. This isn’t your average BBQ setup – this is competition award winning BBQ that happens to also do events. dukes-blues-n-bbq.com – Dukes may not have Vegetarian and Vegan options, but there is a Vegetarian specific restaurant on the square downtown only 0.8 miles from the course.
Speaking of food, PSIMET will have “pie primes” for the first rider in each category who gets the hole-shot.
Equipment Pits will be single width and backwards as we will be running the course counter-clockwise. There will NOT be any water or washing facilities at the race though, so if conditions look to be getting worse then please plan your own support accordingly. There are a couple of water spigots around the park that may or may not be in service . Mambo Car Wash is right down the street.
In order to help cut down on pit traffic – PSIMET will also be issuing Pit Passes for the time slots of the Men Cat 1/2/3 and Women 1/2 & -3/4 races. If you are planning on having a pit support person and/or bike then let them know at registration so that you can receive your pit pass. Pre-registered racers will be assigned pit positions first. This also applies to the Women 3/4 race as it is during the same time slot as the Women 1/2.
There won’t be much if any daylight left after the last race ends, so please plan accordingly. Also if you can, please help PSIMET and the Northbrook Garner teams tear down the course so they aren’t doing it all in the dark.
Kids Race will be hosted by Parker and Andrew Curtis and held at 2:00pm. Competitors will be asked to (have a parent or guardian) sign a waiver and will receive hot chocolate after the race. Ask at Registration for the location of the race but fill out the waiver at the kids race itself.
As another reminder, if you are pre-riding while anyone is finishing up, please make sure you are NOT inadvertently riding in front of people still racing. Just ride slowly behind them and offer words of encouragement or ring a cowbell. Thanks!
The course: Run anti-clockwise meaning we will be descending Heckle Hill.
The race is being brought to you by Keating Law Offices. Keating Law Offices represents victims of bicycle crashes and the bicycle community throughout Illinois.
The race is not a part of the Chicago Cyclocross Cup so your series points won’t be impacted. It also means that staging will be done solely by CrossResults.com ranking. Preliminary staging will be posted here.
Schedule times are the same as the CCC Series, but there are more podiums and State Championships. Example: there will be a Women’s 45+ and 55+ State Championship as well as a Men’s 65+. State Championships are awarded in every category listed on the flyer as long as 3 Illinois residents compete. Must be an Illinois Resident in order to win a State Championship.
Kids Race hosted by Parker and Andrew Curtis will be at 2pm. Competitors will be asked to (have a parent or guardian) sign a waiver and will receive hot chocolate after the race. Ask at Registration for the location of the race but fill out the waiver at the kids race itself.
In order to cut down on traffic issues in the pits – Pit Passes WILL be presented and required during the Women Cat 1/2 & W3/4 and Men Cat 1/2/3. You can have a maximum of 2 per rider. Ask for passes at registration. No one will be allowed in the pits during those races without a pit pass.
We will also be attempting to have business cards available at registration that you can take and give to any local business you visit while in Woodstock. It’s a little way of letting them know the race is what brought you into their city.
If all goes according to plan, Results from Saturday will be uploaded and impact CXR points and staging for Sunday’s race. This may not happen, but at worst your result from Saturday will not negatively affect you Sunday staging.
There will be a cut off for Junior 9-14 and no 2 lap cap on them (meaning they might do 3).
Food:Duke’s Blue’s and BBQ – http://dukes-blues-n-bbq.com/ – will be out again this year for both days serving tasty delicious BBQ.
You can park anywhere in the confines of the park as long as it is in a parking space. Teams may offload and set up in multiple locations but a section near what will most likely turn into tent city will be open for drop off. Simply drop and move the vehicle when you can. The road through the park will be closed at the bottom of heckle Hill as well as the top. If you enter from South Street you can still park in the lower lots. Otherwise you can enter from either of the 2 North via Kishwaukee Valley Rd / Jackson St.
Registration will be in the parking spots adjacent to the top of Heckle Hill.
Absolutely no vehicles on the grass at any time. This is the biggest requirement of the venue. Any vehicle on the grass can and will be ticketed.

Course: While PSIMET’s intention was to run the same course as the preview race last year they found that the venue, like most others this year, is too at risk because of water to allow them to use the same layout. Instead the course will be vastly superior and will remind many of some of the better Woodstock courses of the past. Included is lots of off camber riding and turns, Heckle Hill with a twist, new and challenging routes through the woods, flowing lines through the ancient tent city area, and more climbing than you can shake a stick at. The sand is flooded as are the routes to and from it that feature has been a last minute removal from the course
