CCC Tuesday Updates – 20190730

  • Back at it… glad to see and hear about so many CX shredders out riding and racing their bikes this summer!
  • Please see our last post from 7/2/19 about the changes we’re making for the upcoming season, especially concerning the race day schedule. Please tell all your friends too.
  • We’ve got a few other things in the works, but more on those later.
  • The UPB Junior CX Clinic has been scheduled for Sunday 08/18/2019 at Pulaski Woods.
  • The Half Acre CX Eliminator has been scheduled for Sunday 09/15/2019, again at Big Marsh.
  • A venue change for the series! Unfortunately race #3 will NOT be back at Dan Ryan Woods this year. Instead Beverly Bike, and now co-race promoters Region Racing, will be hosting their event on 10/13/2019 at Pulaski Woods in Palos. More details to come as we receive them.
  • Again, please review the new race day schedule which now starts earlier and adds a new start wave and category.

CCC Tuesday Updates – 20190702

  • A bunch of updates below about the upcoming season, so buckle up and please help spread the word.
  • Each year the CCC looks to implement small changes where we can to improve everyone’s racing experience.
    • As a way to achieve that goal and achieve parity between the Women and Men Cat 4/5 fields, this year we’re splitting the Women Cat 4/5 and Junior 9-14 categories into their own races. This also allows us to add a Women Masters 35+ field that will race with the Women Cat 4/5 for 30 minutes.
    • The Junior 9-14‘s will race by themselves, and this year we’ll try a straight 2 laps instead of 20 minutes. The time on course should be about the same (yes slower juniors may be finished at 1 lap on longer/harder courses) and since every.junior.ever. and their parents always ask us on the start line how many laps, we figured we’d make it easier on everyone. Is your young shredder not tired enough on the ride home? Remember younger juniors can always race up in age and can line up against the Juniors 15-18’s earlier in the day.
    • Splitting the Women and Juniors will also increase rider safety. The Women Cat 4/5 and the Junior 9-14 are two of the quickest growing fields in the series with some of the widest range in ability. Separating them will allow both fields to develop and flourish.
  • So you’re probably wondering where we found another 30 minutes of daily light to fit in another starting wave? To accomplish this we will start the race day 30 minutes earlier, at 8:00am. So masters will need to set their alarm clocks a little earlier.
  • Speaking of Masters… since the 45+ field has continued to grow while the 35+ has gotten a little smaller, we’re moving the 55+ F.O.G. to start right behind the 35+ at 8am to have a more even number of riders on course at the same time. This also helps out One2Go so they don’t have to score 3 start waves of multiple fields on course at the same time.
  • Even though we’re starting the racing earlier Registration will still open at 7am. However, unless the race has a huge reg staff, the first 30 minutes will be limited to the 35+ and 55+ until registration closes for those races. This will give the 45+ Masters a reason to set up the team tents.
  • The schedule page is updated with Race Day start times, so please adjust your schedules accordingly. Kenny will of course be back again announcing the entire series and is working on a master plan to make sure everyone gets their 15 seconds of podium fame. It might take us the first race or two to really dial everything in, so please work with us and pay attention.
  • Not a change, but the CCC is officially beginning its annual sponsorship drive. If you’d like to be involved with the Best Amateur CX Series in the Country, drop us an email and let’s figure out a way we can partner together.
  • Not sure how we didn’t mention this already, but the Montrose Harbor finalé race will also serve as the USAC CX Midwest Regional Championships. More details to come.
  • And finally… it is with great sadness we have to let you know that the Svens are not coming this year. Due to scheduling conflicts and a few minor races in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Belgium, Sven and Sven won’t be able to stop in at the hottest hotbed of hot CX hot that is Chicago. When you think about it, it really is their loss! Now, if we only had other European born CX professional in the area who could pick up the slack…

CCC Tuesday Updates – 20190625

  • Oh hi there friends! Did you miss us? Expect regular (or at least quasi-regular) updates here until the series starts in September.
  • Its June which means we’re finally digging ourselves out of the CCC evile lair and ramping up for the 2019 season. Actually, the cave flooded and our landlord said we had to vacate while the repairs were being done. Anyway…
  • We hope you’ve had a good Spring and are getting on with Summer. September will be here before you know it (only 3 months away) and we’ll all be hanging out again next to the tape and in pop-up tents.
  • More details to come very soon concerning the 2019 season, but the schedule page is updated with fairly certain dates and tentative locations for the series. Remember as always anything can change with venues so keep an eye on that page and we’ll do our best to update you here on the main page with additional updates.
  • We put our heads together with all the race directors over the winter and decided on a few tweaks to the race day schedule. We’ll have a final update concerning those changes next week, but women, juniors, and masters should pay attention.
  • Remember that USAC CX National Championships have been moved back to December starting this year, so if you’re thinking about going you’ll need to make travel for Tacoma this December 2019.
  • And speaking of Nationals… if you haven’t heard, USAC CX National Championships for next year (2020) will be held here in Wheaton next December 2020 at DuPage County’s Cantigny Park. So get ready and giddy up!
  • And finally… remember this year the Illinois State CX Championships will be hosted by Psimet and held Saturday 11/09/19 in Woodstock, IL, the day before Groundhog Cross, and on a different course.
  • Its going to be a great CX season and we’re looking forward to seeing you all out at the races!

  • Quick update for anyone looking to get a head start on the 2019 season, or still holding on a little too tightly to the 2018 season.
  • We’ll be hibernating in the CCC evile lair until at least May, but our friends out in Rockford are already out of their dens and getting after it, hosting their Spring CX series again. Check out info, dates, etc. below and on the newly updated BikeReg.com and give their races a try if you’re so inclined.

CCC Frozen Updates – 20190130

  • Hi everyone, normally we’d hope you were outside enjoying your bicycles, but today and tomorrow… please, please, please stay inside. You can’t ride this weekend if your body and bike are frozen. Stay warm and safe!
  • Just a reminder that this weekend are the 2019 UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships in Bogense Denmark. We’re sure a few places around town will be hosting viewing parties. Leave comments below if you know where or with whom. Enjoy the racing and almost the end to the CX season. Believe it or not there are still seven more UCI races after the World Champs.
  • And finally… George Armstrong has completed his portraits from Montrose and emailed riders individually. CCC Tuesday Updates – 20190101

  • Happy New Year!!! We hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season and new year!
  • We’ll be hosting the end of season awards party at the Rapha Chicago Clubhouse on Saturday 1/12/2019 at 6pm. Please join us and the overall series winners to celebrate the 2018 Chicago Cyclocross Cup season and start talking about the 2019 season. We’ll have overall series winner prizes, door prizes, and food & drinks. No cover charge, but please RSVP so we know how many tacos to order and beers to crack open.
  • You may remember we had George Armstrong at Montrose taking portraits and podium photos. George had a busy holiday season but should have those photos ready soon. Look for a link here on the site in the very near future.
  • And finally… Thanks again to everyone who donated money throughout the season to our series causes. On 12/31/18 we donate $800 each to Blackstone Bicycle Works, West Town Bikes, and Big Marsh. A dollar or two here and there may seem small to some of us, but when added up and combined with many others it can make a huge difference for the people involved with these groups. So thank you, thank you, thank you!

CCC Tuesday Updates – 20181218

  • Congrats to everyone who traveled to Louisville, KY last week and over the weekend to race at the USA Cycling National Championships. The conditions were absolutely brutal with lots of mud and rain, but that didn’t stop several CCC’ers from having some fun and racking up some great results in the process. Special congratulations to Emiliano Arteaga for hitting the podium in 3rd in the Boys Junior 11-12 year old race on Saturday. Full results are here and we’re anticipating photos over on SnowyMountain.
  • Well, that’s it for cyclocross racing here in the states. However there’s plenty of racing through the end of January in Europe though. We’ll mostly be shutting down the updates here on the site, but we’ll be sure to use Twitter for any exciting updates we think you may be interested in.
  • We wish everyone a merry holiday season and happy new year. Please travel and ride safe and we’ll see you again in 2019!
  • And finally… and speaking of things you may be interested in and 2019… we’ll be hosting the end of season awards party at the Rapha Chicago Clubhouse on Saturday 1/12/2019 at 6pm. No tickets, no entry fee, no sit down dinner, no staging grid. Just some good times hanging out with CX minded people, without bikes. Come hang out with us, Kenny, and the overall series winners to celebrate another great Chicago Cyclocross Cup season. We’ll have food, dranks, cowbells, overall series winner prizes, and door prizes. Please be sure to RSVP so we know how many tacos and beers to bring.

CCC Tuesday Updates – 20181211

December 11, 2018
  • Looks like Afterglow was a another success with lots of fun racing and it all going to several great causes. Also, the Slurpee podium “medals” were fantastic. Not that they really matter, but results are here. Thanks to everyone who raced and came out to support Blackstone Bikes and West Town Bikes.
  • Speaking of, we’re still tallying all the donations made through the season and will make our series donation to Blackstone Bikes, West Town Bikes & Big Marsh before the end of the year. THANK YOU to everyone who donated to such worthy causes.
  • Several Chicago area riders also traveled up to WI the day before on Saturday to race at the Midwest Regional CX Championships and brought home jerseys. Congrats to Jordan Austin (Jr Women 15-18), Danny Warner (Masters 55+), & Jacob Huizenga (Single Speed). Full results are here.
  • The Chicagoland CX season is done for the year, but there’s still one big race left. USAC CX National Championships start today (Tuesday) in Louisville, KY. Good luck to everyone traveling to race. We’ll try to keep up with results on Twitter and retweet results with CCC participants on the podium. Kenny has already put together a crib sheet of riders and start times in the comments here.
  • Speaking of being done, congrats to all the riders who earned their USAC CX category upgrades. Yes, we see all those and we’re excited to see several riders upgrading right after Montrose. Good luck and we’ll see you in the next category in 2019. Kenny is already writing his race commentary notes.
  • Speaking of next season, please keep those comments & suggestions emails coming. We can’t promise we’ll make all the changes everyone wants, but we want to hear from you.
  • And finally… Please mark you calendars for Saturday January 12th around 6pm when we’ll be having the our Series Awards Party. We’re finally finalizing the final details but we’re changing things up this year with a new date, time, location, and less formal format so more people can attend. No tickets, no dinner, but still the same good company, conversation, and cheer. And of course cow bells, clean jerseys, and awards for our series winners and door prizes even if you didn’t win an overall jersey. More details to come next week.

2018 Afterglow Preview

  • Please use #AfterglowCX, very important to remember the “CX”.
  • Afterglow is what lingers when the ChiCrossCup concludes, yet you’re not ready to quit. Chicago Cuttin’ Crew’s primary goals are to throw a great race in Chicago and collect funds, cycling parts, and clothing for our youth cycling programs from the South and West sides. In the 9th year of Afterglow, we are proud to continue the pledge drive for Blackstone Bikes and West Town Bikes. And, like last year, we are sponsoring the registration fee for Bikes N Roses!
  • Afterglow always has equal payouts for men and women (zero dollars). And while it is the most affordable race on the calendar, bribes in the form of donations are always accepted in exchange for a spot on the front row. With the post-Regionals, pre-Nationals timeslot, Divvy and tandem categories are bound to be STACKED.
  • In 2018, Afterglow is introducing the HOT LAP race! One final lap of courage to square away any remaining grudges. All wheeled, human-powered machines are welcome, and dare to take the treacherous shortcuts Single Speed State Champion Jake Huizenga has crafted.
  • Registration is at www.bikereg.com/afterglow. When registering race to, please consider donating a few extra dollars that will go directly to our beneficiaries. We will also have a donation box on-site to collect your gently used gear, clothing, and cash money.
  • Day-of registration and number pickup opens at 9am near the start/finish. Bib numbers will go on your RIGHT side, and course runs counterclockwise. Best place to park is on Inner Ogden Avenue, just on the outside of the course.
  • A wheel/equipment pit will be available. Wheels/bike in, wheels/bikes out.
  • Podiums will be presented shortly after each race, and we will have limited edition 2018 Cuttin’ Crew prizes for those victorious.
  • Weather looks like mud. Party looks like #slurpeeseason.
  • Thank you for continuing to support the young people of our city — their programs not only provide transportation to the races and food and snacks, but also a sense of home and accomplishment. 
  • Don’t mind this 2014 map title, its basically the same course as in years past. See you Sunday!
  • UPDATE!!! 
  • Registration/Officials/Tent City/Starting Grid are now on the WEST SIDE of the course, drop off on Sacramento.
  • Park either on Ogden or limited parking in field house lot.
  • Course is reversed, now clockwise. Wheelpit is now where tent city used to be.
